The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), an upstream subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, has reported an explosion at a production facility in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40 involving its partners Elcrest Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited while carrying out production evacuation at Gbetiokun Early Production facility.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) in a statement yesterday said that there were no fatalities or injuries and no significant spill resulting from the incident.

The national oil corporation said however that there was significant damage to the marine storage vessel, MT Harcourt, which will impact production by about 10,000barrels of oil per day.

NNPC spokesman, Kennie Obateru, said the apex energy company has since commenced investigations on the incident.
