The Nigerian Navy has received a mini barrack built in Ikuru town of Rivers state, being a donation by two oil companies, Green Energy International Limited and Lekeoil Oil and Gas Ltd.

The mini barracks was built under technical collaboration between the two companies who operate in the Otakikpo Marginal Field. Flag officer commanding, Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral SK Ibrahim, who was represented by the commander of Ship Jubilee, Commodore Olubode Fazaz, during the inauguration of the mini barracks, expressed gratitude to the companies for their gesture.

He said that corporate organizations, host communities and security agencies must continue to work together to protect investments and secure lives and property in the oil-rich Niger Delta of Nigeria.

Ibrahim said that the Nigeria Navy under the leadership of the Nigerian Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral AZ Gambo, has improved the security environment of the region.

The Navy boss extolled Green Energy for its consistent priority on the security of the area of its operation in Andoni. He expressed confidence that the construction of the Navy barracks in Ikuru town will provide more accommodation and facilities to the staff and enhance their performance in their respective duties.

Calling on other companies within and outside the oil and gas industry in the region, Ibrahim said, “This project will not only contribute positively to the operational effectiveness of the Naval Outpost Ikuru, it will also boost the morale of the personnel of the outpost.”

According to the Navy boss, he felt a great sense of fulfillment considering the fact that another positive impact has been made on the Nigerian Navy.

Also speaking, the chief executive officer of Green Energy, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, said the building of the mini barracks was part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility, as it was in line with its aim to enhance the performance of the Nigeria Navy.

Prof. Adegbulugbe further explained that the project was a follow-up to the building of a Navy facility and barracks in Ikuru town in the Andoni community in 2015, and the donation of a Toyota Hilux truck in 2019.

According to him, the oil and gas firm believes that the security network of the area would be improved with the provision of additional accommodation.

The mini barracks contains six rooms, a security post, an observation tower, a kitchen, a store and office facilities.  Other facilities available at the mini barracks include a 20kVA generator and a 12-panel and six-battery solar lighting system.
