The Karpowership has inaugurated Tema Harbour with the hope of improving the power crisis.

The barges are part of the numerous efforts put in place by government to solve the energy challenge facing the country.

Speaking at the reception ceremony, the Minister of Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor said however, the Karpowership is not the solution to the country’s power crisis. It is rather an addition to the energy mix.

The ship is expected to add 225 megawatt of power to the country’s energy sector. He said government will do all it can to improve energy supply to the people.

The CEO of Karadeniz Holdings,Olhan Karadeniz speaks of the kind of fuel that will be used for the Karpowership and other works to be done on it. He said fuel to be used for the ship is also very cheap.

Meanwhile, the CEO of GRIDCO William Amuna saysit will take one week for GRIDCO to finish inter connection transmission on the Karpowership and connect it to the national grid.

The Karpowership will produce electricity to the people of Ghana for ten years per the agreement signed.

The ship which set sail on the 28th of October this year docked at the Tema Port yesterday.
