Nigeria was honoured recently in France for its floating facility, which is expected to add 200,000 barrels of oil per day to the country’s daily production. The facility built by Samsung Heavy Industries Nigeria (SHIN) bagged the ‘Project of the Year’ award at the Africa Assembly, organised by the Oil and Gas Council.

Along with its client, Total and the country bagged the 2018 ‘Breakthrough Deal of the Year’ and the 2019 ‘Project of the Year’ for the Egina Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit built for Nigeria’s Egina oil field. It is one of the many awards attracted by the Egina field operated by Total, which continues to demonstrate a relentless commitment to develop local expertise.

With 246 participating organisations from 41 countries, the award is an initiative that celebrates groundbreaking achievements, as well as the best-performing companies and executives who have pioneered new frontiers, inspired others through their activities and achieved growth in Africa.

Egina has a remarkable record for driving Nigerian Content, posting several firsts that include having the first Nigerian Based FPSO Project Management team; largest Production Manifold Project; First African Integration quay; having first buoy hull for turret system fabricated; first integrated control and safety system assembled and six  FPSO topside modules fabricated in-country.
