South Africa Has Trouble Making Renewable Connections

While has a booming power industry, it is having a hard time connecting the growing number of projects to its power grid.

State-owned utility Eskom is struggling, and failing to keep the lights on in the country even though the nation’s renewable program is supposed to help alleviate some of the strain on capacity.

“Connections are a problem, we have all identified that, including Eskom,” head of Independent Power Producers unit Karen Breytenbach told a news conference.
